Jason Crabb has long been one of Gospel Music’s most talented singers and performers. From his days with his award winning, chart topping Crabb Family to his solo career, Crabb has had some great accomplishments. His latest recording, “Love Is Stronger”, won the 2013 Dove Award for Inspirational Album of The Year. The previous year also saw Crabb win the Dove for Song Of The Year with “Sometimes I Cry”. Crabb has bridged a divide between his Southern Gospel roots and the Contemporary Christian market. Crabb made big news Friday by announcing his signing with the Provident Label Group, a division of Sony Music. The entire press release can be viewed here.
Crabb will be a part of the Reunion Records roster, which also boasts such artists as Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brandon Heath, Building 429 and Tenth Avenue North. According to a press release, Provident Music Group President/CEO Terry Hemmings states that “Crabb’s debut album is slated for either first or second quarter of 2015 and they plan to work him to the Christian AC format”. Hemmings also goes on to say, “We plan to put our core competencies around what he does well and to the extent that we’re not going to be dictating the kind of records he makes or the songs that he sings, but certainly advising him as to what we know works and what we know doesn’t and his open-mindedness is going to contribute a great deal to our success.”
Although Crabb is looking to further his audience in the AC market, he has no plans to abandon his existing fan base. He has upcoming tour dates with Southern gospel stalwarts Mark Lowry, The Martins and comedian Chonda Pierce. He also says he wants to continue to work on projects with Bill Gaither. “In no way are we finished making music together,” he says of the Gospel Music Hall of Famer.
Jason Crabb is a very smart guy, who knows who and what he is. He also is intelligent to know what works for him, and if it works for him he’ll have no problem connecting to his audience. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s on the horizon for Jason and excited to hear the new music that will come out of this partnership.
